Ahead of next week’s fall schedule announcement for the
broadcast networks, NBC issued cancellation notices to Whitney, 1600 Penn, Guys with Kids and Up All Night –which, to be honest was dead when they attempted to
rebrand the show from a single camera series to multi-camera last fall. It does
free up some real estate, but the fate of low-rated The New Normal and Go On
remains up in the air as well, though citing the cost of starting up new shows,
they may survive. I’m thinking both shows will return and probably be moved (as
I said months ago) to Thursday and pair them with Parks & Recreation (which was renewed for a sixth season) and Community, which should get a fifth
season pick-up, mostly because it's close to the 100 episode count and if NBC gives it one more season of at least 22
episodes, the show can slide easily into syndication, where it should do
nicely. My gut feelings is that Community
will remain on Thursday at 8, followed by Go
On, which will lead into Parks&Rec
with The New Normal following. Hannibal is doing well enough as well
to get a pick-up, and should remain at its 10pm slot.
Meanwhile, ABC seems will pick-up S.H.I.E.L.D. … or Agents of
S.H.I.E.L.D. … or Marvel’s Agents of
S.H.I.E.L.D., or whatever the alphabet network eventually calls Joss
Whedon’s return to TV that will take place with-in The Avengers universe. While not official, it seems more than
likely –mostly because Angel alumni
J. August Richards was added to the cast after
the pilot wrapped.
The CW has assured that fans of sci-fi will want to watch
them, as they’ve ordered a remake of the British series The Tomorrow People, as well as a high school aliens drama called Star-Crossed and a futuristic Lord of the Flies style drama called The Hundred. This is on the heels of
the pick-up for The Vampire Diaries (already
renewed) spin-off The Originals.
Supernatural will be back, as well as is The
Carrie Diaries and Nikita. They’ve
also picked up Reign, a historical soap
that features Mary, Queen of Scots.
