Shifting schedules reveal a start date for 'Ghostbusters III?'; 'Jack' goes from Killer to Slayer

A shuffling of schedules at Paramount Pictures reveals that the long gestating Ghostbusters III/reboot at Sony seems to be in the cards for filming next summer. The studio is looking to fast-track the sci-fi thriller Our Name is Adam starring Tom Cruise (even though they’re still working out the fine details), which means the Ivan Reitman helmed Moneyball-esque Draft Day starring Kevin Costner will be pushed out of its window for filming. This, of course, is not new as all the studios try to configure their tent-pole action films when their big names stars are available. And Tom Cruise has made a lot of money for Paramount, so it’s not a surprise they’re putting a lot of energy and money into a big and expensive film that Adam is rumored to be. Draft Day (a football themed film) would not be expensive, but it does carry the name Reitman and Costner. Still, both the actor and director have a busy slate ahead of them, which means that by bumping this film from its current position, when a slot becomes available at a later date, both Costner and Reitman will be too busy with other projects. Thus, it will force Paramount to shelve the project for the foreseeable future. Costner is currently playing William Harper, the boss of Chris Pine’s Jack Ryan in Paramount’s reboot of the Tom Clancy spy thriller franchise (and will most likely play same character in the adaptation of Clancy’s other spy guy in With Out Remorse which films in 2013 and even may get a freestanding film out of it as well, which may make up for the loss of Draft Day) and then it’s off to film Luc Besson’s Three Days To Kill. And that circles us back to Ghostbusters III. While Sony has not officially greenlighted the film or announced a 2014 release date, Ivan Reitman’s schedule indicates he’ll be helming something at Sony in summer  of 2013, with the most likely candidate being a reboot (sans Bill Murray) of Ghostbusters, something both Sony, and in particular star/writer Dan Ackroyd, have been wanting for at least a decade.

Back on January 20th, Warner Bros announced the Bryan Singer fantasy film Jack The Giant Killer was vacating its June 2012 release date. Word was that the WB worried that the film, starring Nicholas Hoult as Jack, would get lost between DreamWorks Madagascar 3 and Disney’s Brave. Plus the delay would ensure certain complicated visual effects to be completed and proper marketing could be done that would ensure a better return for the studio. The film was bumped to March 22, 2013. Now the film will go through a slight title change as well, with it now being called Jack The Giant Slayer.
