The last member for the cast of
the Munster reboot has been announced. Former Arrested Development and Better
Off Ted star Portia de Rossi will join Mockingbird Lane as Lily Munster,
joining Eddie Izzard, Mason Cook, Charity Wakefield and Jerry O’Connell. De
Rossi comes on after Mariana Klaveno had already been cast; NBC only got her
once ABC Studios released the actress from a contract (Klaveno was part of the
failed Marc Cherry pilot, Devious Maids, but once the Lifetime cable net made
moves to pick it up, they kept her locked in to that). Written by Bryan Fuller and to be directed by
Bryan Singer, Mockingbird Lane is described as a reinvention of the 1960s
sitcom about The Munsters, a family of “monsters” — vampires, werewolves and
Frankenstein, and their “plain” cousin -that will feature striking visuals in
the vein of Fuller’s ABC dramedy Pushing Daisies. Jerry O’Connell plays family
patriarch Herman Munster, who is married to Lily (de Rossi), a vampire, with
whom he has fathered a 10-year-old boy, Eddie (Mason Cook).
