Back in March, Paramount Pictures
announced they were pulling World War Z from
its original release date of December 21, 2012 and rescheduled it for June 21,
2013. I questioned back then whether the reason for its pulling was as simple
as just a much crowed holiday release schedule, and kept an open mind that it was not something else. Now, in what appears to be an
increasingly everyday event, the truth has come out that the film will need 7
weeks of reshoots. This revelation comes after last weeks news that the
studio was pulling G.I. Joe: Retaliation
for reshoots and 3D conversion –a mere five weeks before its scheduled release.
While reshoots are part of a lot of films, there has been a spate of big,
expensive tent-pole films needing to go back and film additional scenes,
including the Keanu Reeves medieval fantasy 47 Ronin, which had its release date moved from this November to
February 2013 to accommodate some lengthy reshoots that might include a possible
new director, replacing first-timer Carl Erik Rinsch. What makes this odd is the
length of the reshoots; 7 week’s is an awful long time. I mean, consider
Disney’s John Carter, which went
through reshoots as well, but those lasted only 3 ½ weeks. A curious question
maybe asked is whether Marc Forster is still World War Z’s director.
