'Who' and 'Thrones' take home Hugos; Third 'Hobbit' film named

Doctor Who’s Neil Gaiman penned episode, The Doctor’s Wife, has already won the Ray Bradbury Award for Outstanding Dramatic Presentation at the Nebula’s back in May has now picked up the prestigious Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form in Chicago on Saturday. This is the sixth time the series has won a Hugo since its return in 2005. Gaiman, while accepting his award, noted that he is currently on the third draft of another script for Doctor Who. Whether this will air in 2013 as part of season 7, orbe part of season 8, is unknown. Meanwhile, HBO’s A Game of Thrones picked up the Hugo for Best Dramatic Presentation, Long Form. Jo Walton’s Among Others took home the Best Novel prize, the same she won at the Nebula’s. More can be found here.

SFX talked to Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat about Jenna-Louis Coleman's arrival as the Doctor's newest companion and how that effects the character and the show as a whole:
“What does Jenna bring to it? It’s surprising just how much the show changes with a new co-star. The Doctor is quite different with her, and the way you watch them is quite different. You watched the Eleventh Doctor and Amy arrive together. It’s like they grew up in the same sandpit, playing. They felt not quite like equals – the Doctor never feels like an equal to his companion – but you knew them equally well and they were equally important to each other. They formed around each other. And one of the interesting things about writing the Doctor is that he’s so responsive to the people around him. It’s almost like left on his own his personality would slowly disintegrate. He becomes what people want him to be, a little bit. So he’s Amy’s Raggedy Doctor."
While there might be some question of whether turning The Hobbit into three films, I'm giving the production crew the benefit of the doubt here -based mostly on the success of The Lord of the Rings. After Warner Brothers and MGM announced the studios registered a few titles before settling on the title for the additional film. Originally, the two films were called The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again. Now the second title film will become the title of the last and the second one will be retitled The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Also, instead of waiting a year between movie two and three, they’ll release the concluding film on July 18, 2014.

HBO’s True Blood will lose 2 episodes for its sixth season, as creator Alan Ball says economics and series star’s Anna Paquin’s pregnancy forced the show to drop from 12 episodes to 10.

Jim Carrey has signed onto play Colonel Stars in the upcoming Kick Ass 2 sequel. He joins returning cast members Aaron Johnson, Chloe Grace Moretz, Nicolas Cage and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. Also being added is Lindy Both, Donald Fasion and John Leguizamo.
