Writer/actor Danny Strong to adapt two-part 'Mockingjay'

While I’m sure it was in the works for a while, it seems former Buffy The Vampire Slayer actor Danny Strong’s first Emmy win for writing sealed the deal for him to adapt Mockingjay, the final novel in The Hunger Games franchise, which will be split into two films. While he still acts from time-to-time (did an arc on AMC’s Mad Men in 2010) the actor began to segued into writing back in 2007 and penned the 2008 HBO movie Recount, which garnered multiple award nominations in both Emmys and Golden Globes and won him a Writers Guild Award. He wrote the 2012 Game Change for HBO and that one won him an Emmy for writing on September 23. He also wrote the upcoming Lee Daniels film The Butler and is attached to write the screenplay for The Last Symbol, the third movie in the Robert Langdon movie series which are based on the novels by Dan Brown. As an article on Collider.com noted, the third book in Collins series is the weakest, and many have wondered exactly how Lionsgate will actually split the book. Still, this may give Strong a chance to expand some of it weaknesses. That is if he’s given some creative license to do that. No director is yet attached, but with part one of Mockingjay scheduled for November 21st, 2014, expect to hear the studio announce someone within the next few months.
